RESED adheres to the principles of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and to the ICMJE recommendations.

Research involving humans and animals

Where the work involves human participants, authors must ensure that the research was carried out in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and that the manuscript follows the ICMJE recommendations. The inclusion of populations that are representative in terms of sex, age and ethnic origin is encouraged.

Animal experiments must follow the ARRIVE guidelines and be conducted in accordance with Directive 2010/63/EU or with the National Institutes of Health guide for the care and use of laboratory animals. The sex of the animals must be stated and, where relevant, its influence on the results.

Informed consent and patient data

Studies involving patients or volunteers require approval by an ethics committee and informed consent, which must be stated in the article. The right to privacy must be respected at all times.

Where case data, personal information or images of patients are included, authors must obtain the corresponding permissions and consents. Written consents are retained by the authors, who should not send them to the journal unless expressly requested in exceptional circumstances.

Clinical trials

Clinical trials must be registered in a public trials registry, as recommended by the ICMJE, at or before the time of participant recruitment. The registration number must appear at the end of the abstract.

Randomised controlled trials must be reported following the CONSORT guidelines, attaching the checklist and the flow diagram.

RESED does not consider results deposited in the trial registry of the primary study to be prior publication, provided they appear as a table or a brief structured summary (fewer than 500 words). Authors must report all results registries relating to the submitted work.

Conflicts of interest

All authors must declare any personal or financial relationship with individuals or organisations that could inappropriately influence their work: employment, consultancy services, share ownership, remuneration, paid expert testimony, patent applications or registrations, and grants or other forms of funding.

Grants, awards or funding related to the work must likewise be stated. The declaration is submitted using the journal's template, which must be signed by all authors: download the conflict of interest statement template.

Where no conflict exists, this must be stated explicitly: "Conflicts of interest: there are no conflicts of interest". If the manuscript is accepted, this statement is published together with the article.

Originality and anti-plagiarism policy

Submission of an article implies that the work has not been previously published, that it is not under consideration elsewhere, and that its publication has been approved by all authors and by the responsible authorities of the institution where the work was carried out. If accepted, it may not be published elsewhere in the same form, in any language or in electronic format, without the written consent of the rights holder.

To verify their originality, manuscripts may be screened using the Crossref Similarity Check service.

Research integrity

Cases of plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabrication or falsification of data and image manipulation will be handled in accordance with COPE guidelines, including rejection of the manuscript, notification to the institution and any appropriate post-publication measures.

Images must not be manipulated in a misleading way. Global adjustments must be applied to the whole image and described where relevant.

Corrections, retractions and expressions of concern

RESED will publish, where necessary, corrections (errata), retractions and expressions of concern, transparently and traceably in accordance with COPE.
